Easter Sunday I followed an egg trail to the beach,
Eggs were scattered, like an Easter Bunny sneezed.
I looked and I laughed, he was just out of reach,
One sky-rabbit drifted on― so relaxed, so pleased.

“Here dad, I’ll help you make up the bed,
But first I need somewhere to hide.
I can smooth the bumps out, whatever end.”
“What about my clean sheets!” Emma’s dad sighed.

Broadbeach shows some classic clouds above the sea,
Almost drifting in time with the waves.
East-west walkways hide between bush and tree,
High-rise shadows slowly creep― daylight fades.

Sunset is glowing where the river runs wide,
Houses hide in soft light― afternoon slips by.
Warm colours splash across Chevron’s south side,
A perfect evening when there’s magic in the sky.

I’m walking the dog at Home of the Arts
While others run around the park
You may feel a breeze whenever they pass
Getting some laps in before it turns dark.

Glowing lights drift into the night,
Is it possible that they be fireflies?
But are they really, could that be right?
Or Qantas, Jetstar― leaving Coolangatta skies.

Our moon is in the sky most nights,
Doing a cosmic dance with Mother earth.
A gravitational hook-up of two “circular kites”,
Gosh I'm glad I did my research.

There is an early rising sun when I wake,
I had been dreaming of the previous day.
On the headland, casually, in-out I breathe,
I’ve been breathing forever― and it's free.

I sit and watch the world move on,
Planes pass, surfers paddle out to sea.
In the hush of dawn, I feel I belong,
One day earlier, came a miracle for me.

Lena's voice suddenly echoed close by,
It's been two years since we shared a laugh.
The same Lena who rang me yesterday,
Waving wildly from just up the path.

Her grin was brighter than the rising sun,
"You're still wearing odd socks?” she said.
We burst out laughing at the same old joke,
Together we hugged and strolled up ahead.

We sipped our coffees, the Burleigh Hill blend,
Lena teased that I drink mine too sweet.
Two years later, not much has changed
Not even the odd socks on my feet.

Need a little sunshine, some time to relax,
Somewhere private amid a gentle calming breeze.
A spot by the water with coffee perhaps,
Sheltered by timeless mangrove trees.

It’s really something, getting stuck in a jam,
While passers‑by stroll past your muffled shout.
Detained at Dreamworld felt like part of the scam,
Til someone called, “Hang on― I’ll squeeze you out.”

Funny how help pops up when you least expect it,
Kindness hides in the shuffle of a crowded place.
For a moment I was trapped, half laughing, I felt lost―
As someone appeared and saved me with grace.

“Hang in there,” she grinned, “I’ve got you, hon”,
“They don’t call me Wonder Babe for nothing.”
She bent those bars, the job was so easily done,
She said; “Let’s bolt, I know a great shack in Currumbin.”

We drove away from Sydney before sunrise,
Weather charts promised a good swell up north.
Surfboards, tents and a couple of guitars,
In a Kombi that's been east, west and south.

Now decades on, in life's passing parade,
Each day moves on, with hours unseen.
Much work is done some plans are delayed,
I'm back again to visit my friend Corrine.

Being out late with our cameras one night,
Watching moonlit reflections at Noosa Bay.
"But look at this too," Corrine called out,
Stairs and railings rose to show us the way.

What a surprise to find a stairway to Heaven,
Twisting and turning up in the distance.
Leading us on by the pull of the moon,
A time re-visit when the morning light returns.

The beach is wide open, not a soul in sight,
Just the soft slap of waves as Emma looks ahead.
Proud as ever as if she owns the whole coast,
With not much else she'd rather do instead.

Emma sits, she draws a long shadow,
The afternoon sand is still warm enough.
Waves keep moving, tossing to-and-fro,
She offers a defensive bark, a pant and a puff.

The air is cool on Tuesday at Broadbeach,
The quiet afternoon stretches out so easily.
Sunshine, salt air, where noisy cars won't reach,
Joyful thoughts and inspiration by the sea.

In the distance every gull is calling out,
Joggers appear/disappear from time to time.
The foam creeps closer, so eager to meet,
Two locals― Emma and I in our prime.

Every night the corellas fly over,
I’ll try to catch their passage with rhyme.
From hinterland treetops, all day they hover,
Then to Macintosh Island for sleepy time.

They rise from the hinterland with a squawking sound,
White wings catch the last sunset sky.
Screeching their laughter across gum tree ground,
‘Til twilight summons― too tempting to deny.

They surge as one, a wild screeching choir,
Their silhouettes flicker across skies burning gold.
Macintosh Island awaits, for what they desire,
Coastal sleep time― a nightly ritual to unfold.

Their squawks shatter any silence any hush,
Riotous sounds echo with a fading sun.
Finally, in shadows, there's a leaf-fluttering rush,
All tree hotels are filled, then they fly back again.
