It’s a truly wonderful world we live in,
Laura loved to be active in sport.
She holds magical memories stored within,
Such happiness from each moment of thought.

Picture

The clouds fly high above Burleigh hill,
There are long rides from a perfect point break.
With various ways that anyone can feel,
Chat on the hillside― or lay back and bake.

Here stands one welcoming Pandanus tree,
It gets a shaking when sou’westers blow.
A spot where friends can meet when they’re free,
With foaming waves and ancient basalt below.

Picture

The fishing trawler has been out netting today,
Spotlights are on as they hose down the decks.
Just off-loaded some seafood for Peter’s Café,
While the sun drops from sight in the west.

Picture

Some surfers paddle out back before sunrise,
Prior to work they’ll find a good break.
Sunrise surfing― refreshing good vibes,
it's an eight o’clock start
, so don’t turn up late!

Picture

Clouds form so many shapes in the sky,
One time, I saw a familiar face over there.
The passing parade is drifting by,
Untwisting every curl in her hair.

Picture

I’ve never seen so many paddleboarders together,
They came from ‘round the corner at Burleigh peak.
Colourful paddleboards, dwarfing surfers by number,
From a clubhouse tucked away on Tallebudgera Creek.

Picture

You’ll see these planes pass then glide out of sight,
Passing planes can be frequently seen.
Following their path to and from Coolangatta airport,
They’re such a magnificent flying machine.

Picture

What is happening to clouds in the sky?
It holds back the sunrise, so it’s too dark to see.
What are these changes seen by you and I?
Looks like an overcast day probably…

Picture

What goes up must come down,
Waves are slapping over the shore.
Fine droplets of air spread across town,
Rusting, smudging, wetting― much more.

Picture

All phones come with a camera these days,
On telescopic sticks and even a tripod.
Everyone snaps away, keen to take selfies,
“You say you don’t own a phone
― that’s odd?”

Picture

Two lovers were squashing up at the beach,
I imagined it was so they keep warm.
It seemed intense how they leaned into each,
And sheer bad luck if it started to storm.

Picture

When friends walk and talk they keep steps in time,
They’re always in sync with one another.
When my dog and I go walkies, I try for the same,
But with only two feet
― her four paws run me over.
